Jessie Buckley calls co-star Olivia Colman ‘the naughtiest person’ on set

Olivia Colman likes to keep her co-stars on their toes.

Jessie Buckley has described her Wicked Little Letters co-star Olivia Colman as “the naughtiest person” on a set.

In the new British comedy, Buckley plays Rose, who is accused of sending vulgar and offensive letters to her neighbours, including Colman’s character Edith.

Reflecting on the shoot on the Table Manners podcast, Buckley revealed that the Oscar-winning actress sometimes surprises her co-stars by breaking wind during a scene.

“She’s great, she’s one of the best humans,” she began. “With Olivia, we’ve become good friends, it just feels so fun. She’s the naughtiest person in the world… You don’t know what she’s gonna do, she might fart or burp in the middle of a scene, she’s like a Trojan farter and burper. But also she’s just so good, it’s so easy.”

The Irish actress appeared alongside The Favorite star in the 2021 film The Lost Daughter, but they played older and younger versions of the same character and do not have any scenes together.

Buckley explained that she signed on for the period comedy, which is based on a true story, because she wanted some fun after intense roles in The Lost Daughter and Women Talking and her all-consuming run as Sally Bowles in Cabaret on London’s West End.

“I really wanted to do a fun job,” she said. “Rose is just so naughty and it’s great to have a good old curse.”

Wicked Little Letters will be released in U.K. cinemas on 23 February.
