Jack Black asked to cover Britney Spears classic for Kung Fu Panda 4

Jack Black and Kyle Gass danced to the cover at the premiere.

Jack Black asked to cover a Britney Spears song for the end credits of Kung Fu Panda 4.

Last week, the funnyman and his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass posted a video on Instagram showing them hilariously dancing and lip-syncing to their cover of the iconic Britney song …Baby One More Time in a hotel room. They added a panda emoji in the caption, suggesting that it would appear in Black’s new animated film.

At the Los Angeles premiere of the film on Sunday, the actor revealed he pitched the singer to director Mike Mitchell.

“(He) said, ‘Hey, we would love to have a Tenacious D song for the end credits’ and I was like, ‘Really? Can we do Britney Spears?'” Black recalled to The Hollywood Reporter.

“He said yeah, and he said, ‘Let’s do Hit Me Baby One More Time for the kung fu aspect of that song,’ and we were like, ‘Hell yeah,'” the star continued. “So we got in the recording studio and we did it and we’re really proud of the track. We shot a little impromptu music video in Kyle’s hotel room and we put it on the Internet and it’s gone crazy viral. It’s exciting.”

Footage posted on X/Twitter by the outlet showed Black and Gass dancing to the song on the red carpet, with The Holiday star showing off his kung fu moves.

Kung Fu Panda 4, the follow-up to 2016’s Kung Fu Panda 3, once again follows the adventures of Black’s titular panda Po alongside new characters voiced by the likes of Viola Davis, Awkwafina and Ke Huy Quan. It will be released in U.S. cinemas on Friday.
