The Great White Hype

Set in the world of competitive boxing, the story tells of a crafty promoter named Rev. Fred Sultan (Samuel L. Jackson) who, faced with dwindling box office and public interest in the "sweet science," dreams up the Fight of the Millennium. The scam involves luring a little-known but undefeated white pugilist (Peter Berg) out of retirement and hyping him as the man to beat the reigning champion (Damon Wayans). Featured among the ensemble are Jon Lovitz, Corbin Bersen and Cheech Marin. Also on hand is Jeff Goldblum as a self-described crusading reporter who starts out by investigating Sultan's questionable methods, only to find himself seduced by the promoter's hustling wizardry. Reginald ("BOOMERANG") Hudlin helms the irreverent comedy from a screenplay by Ron ("WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP") Shelton.
