The world of imagination and its healing powers provide the backdrop for this whimsical tale about a 7-year-old boy named Albert who is helped through hard times by a bigger-than-life imaginary friend (Gerard Depardieu) he created with his coloring book. The action turns on his foster mother (Whoopi Goldberg) who, while disbelieving at first, comes to embrace the imaginary friend when she discovers that he can be as much help to her as he is to Albert. Veteran filmmaker Norman ("MOONSTRUCK") Jewison helms the fantasy -- his first since completing "ONLY YOU" in 1994. Of the pairing of Goldberg and Depardieu: "A star-driven chemistry. On top of everything else, both have a sense of childness about them. Both of them are capable of being clowns in the true sense of the word -- in the magical sense of the word."
