Emily Blunt: ‘Ryan Gosling was a sheer delight to work with on The Fall Guy’

Emily Blunt has revealed the practical stunts were “wildly intense” to witness.

Emily Blunt has described her co-star Ryan Gosling as “a sheer delight” to work with on The Fall Guy.

In the upcoming action comedy, Blunt plays a film director whose project is derailed when her leading man goes missing, so her stuntman and ex-boyfriend Colt Seavers, played by Gosling, helps track him down.

Discussing her rapport with Gosling on set, the British star said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “He’s heaven, he’s so talented and frighteningly smart and so funny. The most quick-witted, agile actor in the world and just a sheer delight to work with.”

The film, based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, is helmed by David Leitch, who was a stunt double and stunt co-ordinator before he turned to directing.

The Oscar-nominated actress explained that the movie is “a real throwback” to ’80s action romances and “a complete love letter” to stunt performers “who risk life and limb for us actors constantly”.

To honour them, all the stunts in the film were practical and “wildly intense” to witness, according to Blunt.

“(Stunt performers) live for this, to be able to live out practical stunts, real old-school shot practical stunts, so there’s barely a stitch of CGI in our movie,” the Oppenheimer star continued. “CGI is great but it’s used so limitlessly nowadays and maybe it does distance us because we know it’s not real. But all the stunts in this, from insane car rolls to car jumps to god knows what else, I mean, it’s all real and wildly intense watching all of it happen in real-time.”

The Fall Guy, also starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke and Hannah Waddingham, will be released in cinemas in May.
