Kathryn Hahn in talks to play Mother Gothel in Tangled live-action remake

Kathryn Hahn is in talks to join Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in the remake.

Kathryn Hahn is in talks to play the villain Mother Gothel in the live-action remake of Disney’s 2010 animated musical Tangled.

The Agatha All Along actress is reportedly circling the role of the Disney villain, who kidnaps Rapunzel and imprisons her in a tower for years so she can use her magical blonde hair to keep herself young and beautiful.

If cast in the film, Hahn will star alongside Titans actress Teagan Croft and Zombies actor Milo Manheim, who were announced as Rapunzel and outlaw Flynn Rider earlier this week.

Scarlett Johansson was previously reported to be circling the Mother Gothel role back in October. However, she reportedly had to back out of talks because of scheduling conflicts. She is busy shooting The Batman: Part II and The Exorcist reimagining this year.

The live-action Tangled film will be directed by The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is known for movies like Do Revenge and the 2025 I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. The duo has been attached to the project since 2024.

According to reports, cameras are set to roll on the remake in the U.K. in June.

In the original film, Donna Murphy voiced Mother Gothel, while Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi voiced Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, who encourage the princess to leave her tower and go on an adventure.

It was a huge critical and commercial hit, taking nearly $600 million (£447 million) at the global box office. It was also nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar for I See the Light.
