Jordan Peele's not impressed with Get Out's comedy category at Golden Globes

Jordan Peele says he made film Get Out as it was the movie he was waiting for as a horror fan.

Jordan Peele is miffed that his horror flick Get Out has been classed as a comedy by the Golden Globes.

Voters will be considering the smash hit film in the Best Musical or Comedy category at the 2018 awards in January, and neither fans nor Get Out’s director can understand why.

Following on from a tweet Jordan posted earlier in the day, the first-time filmmaker opened up about the nod on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday (15Nov17) night.

“I submitted it as a documentary,” he deadpanned. “Here’s the thing, the movie is truth. The thing that resonated with people was truth, so for me it’s more of a historical biopic.”

“The original title was Get Out The Kanye West Story, but I had to lop off the end,” he continued with a smile.

The scary flick, which stars Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams as an inter-racial couple, examines racial tensions in America, and although there are some laughs, there’s plenty of jumpy moments throughout the thriller.

However, Jordan says it doesn’t neatly fit into any genre.

“It sort of subverts the idea of genre,” he mused. “But it is the kind of movie that black people can laugh at, white people not so much.

“This is the movie I wanted to make. I wanted to make a movie that was for the very loyal black horror fan base, that we go to see horror movies and we don’t get represented. And this is the movie I felt like black people were waiting for. And I’m thrilled that everybody enjoys it, but to be honest it was my favourite movie that I had never seen.”

The movie scores an impressive 99 per cent on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, and comedian Jordan has his own ideas about why it didn’t score a perfect 100.

“Racism. Racism has a column and reviews things and is responsible for that one per cent,” he joked. “But yeah, look I’m happy to get that humble 99. I’ll get them next time.”
