Lily James ‘is the best Lizzie Bennet ever’
Lily James will play “the most kicka*s Elizabeth Bennett we’ve ever seen” when she takes on the role for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, according to co-star Sam Riley.
Lily James is “kick a*s” when armed with a letter opener in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
The 26-year-old became a household name thanks to her role as the demure Lady Rose in hit TV show Downton Abbey.
But her latest movie role sees her explore an entirely different side to herself – and one that fans should be afraid of, her Pride and Prejudice and Zombies co-star Sam Riley noted in a new interview.
“She’s going to be one of the best Elizabeth Bennett[s], if not the best,” Sam told British newspaper The Independent.
“She’s certainly the most kicka*s.
"he’s got a very natural and unforced charm that I think is perfect for Lizzie Bennet.”
The unlikely plot for the film sees Jane Austen’s famous tale transported to an alternate universe, in which a group of zombies are threatening to overrun the British establishment.
Along with her sisters, Lily’s character Elizabeth uses her martial arts skills to help battle the zombies in an attempt to save the world.
And while stunts and on-screen violence is a new prospect for Lily, Sam, who plays Mr Darcy in the film, said she settled into it with unsettling quickness.
“There is a scene where my proposal to her goes horribly wrong and we end up having a fight in the drawing room where she attacks me with the letter opener and poker,” Riley said.
“I can speak from experience that she’s pretty lethal!”
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is also where Lily met boyfriend Matt Smith, who appears in the movie as Mr Collins.
The movie’s release date is tentatively set for February 5, 2016.
