Charlize Theron keen for Mad Max: Fury Road prequel

The actress would also like to reprise her villainous The Fate of the Furious role for another action-packed film.

Charlize Theron has called on director George Miller to move forward with a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel focused on her character Imperator Furiosa.

The actress portrayed the tough one-armed soldier in the 2015 post-apocalyptic blockbuster and reveals Miller had already detailed her character's past in an additional screenplay. Now, she wants to return to the desert and explore Furiosa's history onscreen in a Mad Max franchise spin-off.

"There were three scripts," she tells Variety. "They were written as back stories to Max's character and to Furiosa's character. But, at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with George. I think Warner Bros. (the film's distributor) knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way."

Meanwhile, Charlize is also eager to return to the world of street racing in The Fast and the Furious franchise, after portraying the villain in the recent sequel, The Fate of the Furious.

The Oscar winner starred as cyberterrorist Cipher in the movie, joining series regulars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson, and although the future of her character is unknown, she would jump at the opportunity to reprise her role.

"I have no idea if they'll have me back," she shares. "Look, I love everybody at Universal (the film studio behind the franchise). We're going to have conversations. We'll see where it goes."

Charlize previously admitted she was "so humbled" to be a part of the hugely successful franchise after it smashed worldwide records to land the biggest opening weekend in history with a $532 million (£414 million) debut in April (17).
