Alexandra Shipp's dreams took flight in X-Men: Apocalypse

Actress Alexandra Shipp recalled how she bought vodka before shaving her head for X-Men: Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse star Alexandra Shipp's dreams came true when she flew about on set.

The 24-year-old actress joins the mutant franchise as Storm, taking over the famous role from Hollywood star Halle Berry. One of Storm's powers is being able to glide through the air, which was a thrilling experience for Alexandra during production.

"When I was flying!" she gushed to SFX magazine when asked if there were any moments that made her feel lucky to have the career she does. "I was 50 feet in the air, on the sires, bombs are supposed to be going off and I'm zig-zagging around. I was like, 'This is the best job I could ask for’.

"Y'know, my entire life, I've had dreams about flying. So it was really fun to actually fly in real life. I was like, 'Oh, this is awesome. This is cool. I get it now!'"

Although she thrived in the part, Alexandra admits she did feel the nerves at first about filling Halle's shoes. There was even a period in which the star contemplated whether she could accept the job, but overcame her fears after telling herself that it was an early version of Storm that she'd be portraying.

She must have been dedicated to the role, as Alexandra shaved her hair in order to rock the Mohawk seen on Storm in the movie. It didn't faze her too much though and she even threw a party to celebrate the transformation.

"Two days before I was going to leave, I texted all of my friends and was like, 'Be at my house, Saturday night, stroke of midnight,'" she recalled. "I bought a whole bunch of vodka. I set up a camera in my living room. My friends all showed up and I was like, 'Guys, everyone here knows that I've got X-Men, and we're all really excited. Now I need you to shave my f**king head!'"

X-Men: Apocalypse also sees the return of stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence.
