what's the story

Billed as an offbeat road movie, the story tells of two Irish ex-cons. The action turns on the character of Git Hynes (Peter McDonald) who, fresh out of jail for a crime he didn't commit, rescues his witless pal from having his fingers smashed by Dublin hoodlum Tom French (Tony Doyle), but ends up owing French a favor. Git's mission is to bring back French's associate Frank Grogan (Peter Caffrey), and the money he has with him, and just to make sure Git doesn't stray, French sends along one (Brendan Gleeson) of his thugs. When the pair finally find their quarry, complications arise. Grogan claims to know nothing about any money or a deal, but does admit to carrying on with French's wife. As the trio drive back to Dublin, no one knows what to believe, except that they're basically onlookers to some complicated history between a pair of gangsters.
